The Cheno Countdown Ends Today!

Since I didn't get to make a final post yesterday I'll put some extra clips in this morning because this is the last day of the countdown!!! Tomorrow I'll be in NEW YORK CITY!  Enjoying the sights and sound of the bustling metropolis (wishing I lived there) and then a little less than 36 hours from now I'll be watching the curtain go up on my first Broadway show! Only 2 more days till I get to see the amazing Kristin Chenoweth perform in Promises, Promises!  There was a great article in the NY Times about here today.  But as I have been doing today will also include a Chenolicious clip for your enjoyment.  What would a Cheno Countdown be without hearing her amazing opera voice! So please enjoy this clip from Lenoard Bernstein's "Candide", Kristin singing "Glitter and be Gay", and even if you don't think you like opera believe me you will like this because not only is her voice amazing but the character is really funny as well so it's a comedy but an opera! 

SNL: Amy Poehler Kicks the Season Off Right!

As an avid SNL watcher for many years I can say with truth that the show hasn't been that good the last few seasons.  Tonight was the 36th season premiere with host, former cast member, Amy Poehler and musical guest Katy Perry.  Tonight was really funny but can the season keep up the stamina without the genius comedy of former cast members as hosts?  I guess we shall see next week when Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad has his run at hosting.

Here's a little recap of the awesomeness that was tonight's SNL.  Amy's opening monologue was pretty awesome, she did a little dream sequence bit which featured the one person who can show up on any episode and make it better, Justin Timberlake, former cast member Rachel Dratch and a great bit with Seth Meyers and Amy talking about weekend update but Seth says they aren't doing it tonight because "they're back" they being Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon! too funny.

I think the best sketch of the night was the return of Bronx Beat which also brought another alum back in the form of Mya Rudolph!  In case you don't remember the bit it's a talk show-esque bit and they chat at the beginning and bring on a guest, well the guest was played by none other than musical guest Katy Perry sporting a cleavage cut Elmo shirt! (In case you live in a cave this is hilarious because Katy Perry recently shot a segment on Sesame Street with Elmo that Sesame Street has now said they will not air because Katy was showing too much cleavage!) as Sheldon Cooper would say, Bazinga!



Amy got herself back behind the Weekend Update desk with Seth Meyer during the "Reallly, with Seth and Amy!" segment where they talked about Iran and then turned to DADT and really had some great pokes at the government for not repealing this ridiculous law! it's worth a watch.  Also during the Weekend Update sketch we got our first peak at one of the new cast members who did a really spot on impersonation of Will Smith (I think this guy is gonna be a great new addition), he also does an impersonation of Chris Tucker in a later sketch that is also really good.  And of course what's better than a bit with Governor Patterson, only this time they got the ACTUAL Governor to come on the show!  And he poked fun of SNL a little but also joked about himself and was very comical.



Katy Perry's performances were just OK, she sounded a little off, especially singing acapella at the start of Teenage Dream.  I feel that way about a lot of performers nowadays.  Their voices are altered so much in the studio that when they sing live it just doesn't sound right (the biggest example of this is The Black Eyed Peas, they sound TERRIBLE live!).

It was obvious the cold open would have to be about the Republican candidate for Senate Christine O'Donnell, who recently stated on Bill Mahr that she "dabbled in witchcraft".   You can't have that be in the headlines and not make fun of her on SNL!  And there was a really funny little sketch towards the end with Andy Samburg and Justin Timberlake that was really short but really fun!

All in all I think Amy was an excellent host (but who thought otherwise?  I mean she came from the all star casts of SNL, I expected nothing less from her.  I just wish they could have brought back Horatio Sanz so they could do the Katlin/Rick sketch).  The real test is going to be next week and the coming weeks to see if the show can live up to the awesomeness that was tonight's episode.  I'm looking forward to Jane Lynch in a few weeks and can't wait to see who else will get a chance hosting this season!

Cheno Countdown - 4 days till NYC!

Today's Cheno Countdown clip(s) are from an interview on Letterman from July of this year.  I chose this clip(s) because Kristin talks about her "twittering" and I absolutely love her tweets!  If you don't already follow her on twitter you can find her at @KChenoweth she is absolutely hilarious!  But on Letterman she talks about how she might have gotten a girl fired from Starbucks (her favorite place) from a tweet she posted of an employee who was rude to her.  Another fun part of this interview is she accidentally has some language slip ups in trying to describe tweeting (which she calls "twittering"), hilarity ensues.  Lot's of bleeping involved in this interview.  She also talks about her summers in Oklahoma as a kid from church camp to an incident at cheerleading camp and then makes a big exit with Sean Hayes to the Broadway Theater where her show is playing (and where Wednesday night I will be sitting in the front row watching) since David Letterman's studio is right across the street.  Hope you all enjoy this great interview!

My New Philosophy - Kristin's Tony winning role

Here is your Kristin Chenoweth clip of the day!  It's old school Kristin from her breakout role in the revival of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown".  Her Tony winning role as Sally Brown was Kristin's rise to fame.  The clip below is her song "My New Philosophy" which was added to the revival.  This video is over 10 years old but it's Kristin's voice is still as magnificent then as it is now!

Cheno Countdown Day 3

I chose this clip for one reason only and this reason is that at the end of the interview Kristin says "Easy Pizzi" which is of course my last name (I love when people say that line...also the reason my softball jersey from summer league in Indiana rec league says "Easy" on the back - and to clarify that's the only reason it says Easy on the back).  This is an interview with Kristin from January of this year on "The Strategy Room" to talk about her involvement in the Good Mood Mission through Oscar Mayer in an effort to raise money for Feeding America - a great organization.  I love how philanthropic Kristin is and that she gets involved in such diverse charities from her personal charity "Maddie's Corner", named for her adorable Maltese Madeline Kahn Chenoweth, to the Dave Thomas Foundation for adoption, to working with Oscar Mayer to feed the hungry in America.  She's one of the good ones out there that is so talented yet so humble and giving as well!

Cheno Coutdown - Home

In exactly 1 week I will be headed to Connecticut for the first night of my quick trip to New York City to see the wonderful Kristin Chenoweth in her current Broadway show - Promises, Promises - also starring Sean Hayes from Will and Grace.  In honor of this I am posting an entry each day featuring Cheno!

Before I get into the clip I just spotted this little SPOILER on Kristin's return to Glee via E! online's Kristin Di Santos -

April Rhodes is on her way back to McKinley High and a little birdie we like to call Kristin Chenoweth    tells us we're in for a nearly nude treat! "I'm going back in two weeks to do Glee. I did hear April will be stripping and it made me nervous—made me not want to eat." Just don't expect any smooth moves on the stripper pole. Says Kristin: "I'm not going to practice it either because I don't think April would know how!"

In honor of GLEE returning tonight our Cheno Countdown clip will be from her second appearance on Glee in the episode "Home" where her version of  "Home" from The Wiz is utterly breathtaking.  She looks stunning in the white gown and every time I hear her sing this song it is so moving that I have to fight back the tears.  I could watch this episode of Glee over and over again, and in fact have seen it about 3 times in the past 3 weeks now.  Some people criticized her appearance in this episode saying her character was just thrown into the episode in order to have Kristin on the show again but I disagree.  And I can't wait for April Rhodes to come back this season! It will be interesting to see what she's been up too since we last saw her.  She said she was heading to Broadway to "mount an all white production of The Wiz" with her millions she received in a settlement to keep quiet about her affair with a strip mall tycoon.  Something tells me April will have some fun stories to tell when we see her again but what would be interesting is that Nationals is in New York so it would be great if she appeared in that episode (if she is still on Broadway when the the group gets there).  I believe she is set to film her second season appearance in Glee in late October after a rescheduled concert with the Oklahoma City Pops.  The Promises, Promises website says she will not be in the production for a week or so in late October so I assume she will be out in LA taping.  So I hope everyone enjoys Kristin Chenoweth's version of "Home" and tune in and watch the season 2 premiere of Glee tonight at 8pm on FOX!

Why didn't Lee DeWyze sing this version of "Beautiful Day" on the finale performance of idol?  I think it would have made his win margin much bigger and I hope that this is the version he puts on his album because it is so much better than copying U2's version.  Check it out below

Today it all comes to "The End"

With "The End" of Lost quickly approaching I thought it would be a good time to post some final thoughts on the show.  It seems like only yesterday when I got my first glimpse into LOST.  I remember catching a rerun of the pilot episode the summer after it began but wasn't immediately hooked and never really looked back to the show until season 3, that's when a friend of mine who watched LOST made me sit down and watch an episode, but I was so confused because I had not been watching.  This led me to go out and watch the first 3 Seasons on DVD.  After that, I was hooked.

I remember as I watched the DVDs of seasons 1 and 2 being sucked in to the mysteries of the island.  I was so enthralled that I would watch episode after episode after episode just so I could find out what was going to happen next!  I was like WOW this show is so complex and mysterious and just plain something to think about that I couldn't stop.  Watching on DVD was thrilling because unlike everyone who had watched it on TV I didn't have to wait a week for the next awe inspiring episode to leave me wanting more, I just popped in the next DVD and watched as much as I wanted...there was no worry of waiting an entire week to find out what was in the Hatch or whether Henry Gale was who he said he was.  The biggest disappointment for me was that I had to stop and wait for season 4 to start after probably the show's best season finale "Through the Looking Glass".  Oh yea and of course Season 4 was the first time we had to wait until January for the season to begin!

So many people say that season 3 was so terrible.  Sure it some pretty horrible episodes like "Stranger in a Strange Land" where we learn about Jack's tattoos, "Expose" the story of Nikki and Paulo who are unnecessary characters that we hear a back story too (although I do give the show credit for taking scenes from previous episodes in which they were clearly not in and somehow weaving them back into it)...but just think about where we would be today without season 3?  If you go back and watch Season 3 again now you will see that it really started Locke in motion to become the smoke monster.  Maybe you didn't think you wanted to see as many stories about The Others but I think they made this already complex story even more complex I mean didn't you want to know how this group formed and when the got there?  - as a matter of fact I don't think we REALLY know the answer to that to this day.  I mean some of the people we know as Others are former Dharma members, some are former 815ers and the rest we assume Jacob brought to the island at one point as a candidate but how long ago was that?  I digress because this post isn't about our lingering questions it's about our love for this great television show and how life will change when it's over.

Last night, while at work, I was watching the enhanced version of the Pilot that ABC so kindly played for us when a co-worker asked me "What are you gonna do when it's over?"  and it got me thinking?  I don't know...I have always been a television buff...I watch more television than the average person should and I have been that way my whole life.  Whether it be old shows in reruns or new series to watch every week, I have been a fan of television pretty much my whole life.  I mean my first words as a child were "TV Guide"...tell me that's not a passion...I even grew up to work at a TV station (albeit in news but I would probably give my left arm to work in serialized television if I could).

Someone else asked me at work the other day if LOST was my favorite show on TV and I replied yes, and then he asked me what my second favorite show was...and I didn't have an answer because to be honest there's LOST and then there's everything else.  Sure I may watch a lot of other shows and watch them every week the same as I do with LOST but it's the intensity with which I watch LOST that makes it superior to the others.  No other show on television had or will match the great story telling and mysteries that LOST created for us.  It has been a world of mysteries and connections and science and time travel and many other crazy notions that on any other show would seem outrageous, but on LOST it works.

I'm sure LOST will live on through the fan support for a long time to come but next fall when the new seasons start all I will be thinking about is that come January LOST will not be back.  I'm sure I will find some new shows to watch in place of LOST and several of the other shows I watched that were canceled (like the great FlashForward, which I personally thought was going to be a great replacement for LOST till ABC pulled the plug on it!) but nothing will ever give that sense of excitement, that moment in the last 3 minutes of the show that makes us think WTF, that time we will waste researching theories and reading articles based on books that were mentioned in the show.  So basically we will all have many more hours back in our lives to do other things but none will be as enjoyable as LOST!

So, in our farewell night to LOST, here's hoping all your expectations will be lived up to and that the ending of the greatest show that ever was will be satisfying and full of answers.  I want to let you all know that as soon as the finale is over I will begin the great PROJECT LOST RE-WATCH where I plan to go back and re-watch the entire series again.  I will then blog about each episode (either on this blog or maybe I'll create a new one just for this project) giving a retrospective about what was so great about the episode and talk about things that stand out now knowing all that we have seen throughout the show.  I'm going to guess there were so many little hints to things that we now know that we totally missed the first time around because we didn't know they were something we should look for.

*Learning the mysteries of the characters - remember when we didn't know that Locke was in a wheelchair before getting to the island.
*Remembering what it was like when we kept noticing the numbers everywhere, that feeling of why are those numbers everywhere!
*Getting into the Hatch
*Meeting the Tailies
*Blowing up the Hatch
*Finding all the Dharma stations
*"WE HAVE TO GO BACK" flashforward scene -think about how you felt when you saw that scene and when you didn't know it was a flashforward...the introduction of this new storytelling tactic was brilliant.
*The time travel as a way to show past island events - it introduced us to Widmore as an Other and so many other great things like Rosseau's story.
*Discovering Locke was dead yet still alive on the island
*Sawyer and Juliette
*and of course season 6 trying to give us the answers we so desperately want

LOST - a retrospective of John Locke and "What They Died For"

Ok so after watching the Last Tuesday night episode of LOST entitled "What They Died For" I decided to do a little searching into the past of Lost on our most knowledgeable LOST site - Lostpeidia (you could take days going through all the information that is on that site!)  Anyway, I was thinking about when Locked turned the Donkey Wheel to leave the island and that after he fell down the well he was ready to give up because he hurt his leg and then none other than Christian Shepard appeared to him and got him to continue...well we now know that Christian was always the MIB so it got me to thinking about how long has the MIB been manipulating John Locke to ultimately take his form to accomplish his goal? 

So I went to the John Locke entry in Lostpedia...one thing that stuck out to me was way back when John Locke was a child and Richard Alpert came to him with those 6 items and asked him to take what was his (ideally I think Richard wanted him to take the compass which played a part in John and Richards time travel) Locke chose the knife and Richard became freaked out and took everything, John also had made drawings of what seemed to be "the smoke monster" attacking a stick figure.  Was this forshadowing, is this somehow related to the sideways stories where their island self and non-island self realize the other?  John as an adult had a sort of obsession with knives but the man in black also has a very interesting knife and he is also the smoke monster...

Here's another thing that stuck out leading back to how long MIB has been manipulating John Locke.  After John becomes the new leader of the others he has a "dream" and sees Horace Godspeed (one of the dahrma people) come to him and tell him Jacob was waiting for him and led him to the mass grave where on Horace's corpse Locke found a map to Jacob's so-called cabin.  (It should be noted in case you forgot that Horace was the one who built that cabin back in the Dahrma days)  When Locke arrives at the cabin Christian Shepard is inside (MIB) and he tells Locke that he needs him to move the island.  But Ben does it instead which results in when Locke tries to turn the Wheel Christian tells him I told YOU to move the island, not Ben.  The reason Ben did the deed not locke is because Ben said you could not return to the island if you left (was this a lie or did our castaways find a loophole of sorts)  So ultimately MIB wanted Locke to leave the island...why?  Is it because if they leave they can't come back (because we saw that not to be ture...was his thought process that if he got all the candidates to leave they couldn't come back and that solves one of his problems but he was still going to have to get someone to kill Jacob...it seems like MIB's plan has been a long and complex one with many twists that took place over the previous seasons that we never noticed until now)

Christian is the one who told Locke to find Eloise Hawking after he convinces everyone to come back (she is Widmore's formal girl, Widmore said Jacob told him to come back yet if Christian refered to Eloise she somehow is connected to smokey?)  Locke also asked Christian to help him with the wheel but he said he can't (is it because he can't leave the island because he's somokey!)

Richard upon giving Locke the compass while flashing through time was the one who told him that he had to bring the others back to save the island and we know that Richard gets orders from Jacob, so....And Richard also told him that in order to do so he would have to die (this however sets up smokey's plan to have Locke's body brought back to the island so he may assume his form, is Richard a double agent?)

As I look further into John Locke I am brought to the Orchid where Ben surrenders himself to Keamy and Lock is attempting to follow Ben's instructions but is unable to get into the station because he doesn't know the plants that Ben described to him.  That is unimportant what is important is when Jack arrives and confronts Locke.  Lock tries to convice Jack to stay and that they were brought to the island for a reason, but Jack was determined to go home.  Locke then told Jack that everything that happened since the crash was to protect the island and Jack said "The island doesn't need protection" - Key phrase

Doesn't it feel like John Locke and Jack are characteristically Jacob and his brother?  So it is so fitting that in tonights episode they have completely switched sides.  Jack the essential MIB who wanted to leave the island has now taken over as island protector - he is now the same as Jacob.  And Locke who until he left the island believed that he was there to protect the island (Jacob's purpose, even though as children Jacob did not want to protect the island) and now that Locke has died he becomes the somke monster who tells Sawyer "The island doesn't need protection, it's just a damn island" remember that key phrase I pointed out earlier that Jack told Locke at the Orchid?

It's kind of a bittersweet full circle turnaround of characters isn't it?

Enough about the interesting past of LOST, this is a nice lead-in to last night's episode...so what happened
Things we learned:

We find out why Kate was crossed off in the cave...Jacob said it was because she became a mother (i.e. had someone else to protect) 

Desmond is a fail safe - whatever that means.

Jacob left the island and told Widmore how to find it and basically helped him to the island.

Jacob brought them all there so that one of them could take over the island (as we suspected)...

OK on to thoughts of the episode:

Ben says he learnt he could summon the Monster from his secret room, although he later realized that the monster was summoning him.(lostpedia)  I'm still trying to comprehend this thought so if you have enlightenment on it please share in the comments.

Widmore explains that Jacob came to see him after Ben destroyed the Freighter and persuaded him to return, telling him all he needed to know for "this exact purpose."  Why?  Was he just supposed to bring Desmond back?

So Desmond's unique ability to withstand electormagetisim makes him the fail safe to protect the island and Locke says he's gonna use him to destroy the island...is this all going to be similar to the fail safe Key and the Hatch blowing up?

Why all of a sudden are Kate, Jack and Saywer able to see dead Jacob?  and why is his child self running around the island?  Why did he take his ashes? - is it so he can finally move on?  Why is it when that fire went out he would be gone for good? 

What happened to Richard?  Did smokey actually kill him?  I think no but we can't be sure.

Will Miles catch up with our castaways?  Is Ben really going to help Locke kill our heroes? or is he simply playing a long con on him?  Locke (in smokey form), finally got the best of Ben after Ben always besting John when he was alive...Locke offered Ben the island all to himself but does Ben really want that anymore?  Oh yea and Ben shot Widmore (payback for having his "daughter" Alex killed)

Off to the sideways world -
2 previously dead characters return to us in Danielle Rousseau and Ana-Lucia.  Desmond, who is trying to run over John Locke again, beats the crap out of Ben (which causes some island recollections).  He tells Ben that he wasn't trying to kill him he was trying to get him to "let go" (which is what Jack asked him to do in The Candidate)...Upon hearing this Locked decides to see Jack again and says all these connections cannot be just coincidence (their converstaion seemed very simliar to a previous converstion between Mr. Eko and John Locke when they found the missing piece of the orientation film - Mr. Eko tells Locke do not confuse coincidence for fate...I want to say Jack said almost the same thing to John in his office that day).

Ben goes to dinner at the Rousseau house and Danielle tells him that Alex's dad is dead and that he is like a father to her...(kinda felt a little Ben/Danielle romance there didn't you?)

Desmond turns himself in to Det. James Ford as the guy involved in the hit and run in order to get in with Sayid and Kate who are also in jail.  He has a big plan set up for them to get transfred to County and he will have Hurley pay off a crooked cop (Ana-Lucia) to let them go.  How funny was it when Hurley shows up and goes "I didn't know Ana-Lucia was going to be here" and she was like to I know you?  Obviously Hurley is completely linked to his other life...he askes Desmond why she's not coming and he says "she's not ready yet"  Sayid goes with Hurley, Kate with Desmond - they're going to a concert (hmm isn't Jack going to a concert?  wasn't Daniel performing a concert with Drive Shaft put on by Eloise Hawking, also in attendance Penny?) I think the sideways story will arc up at this concert!  One funny occurance that seemed to resemble a previous episode - Desmond gives Kate a dress (kinda like when Ben gave her a dress in season 2 when he locked her and Sawyer up in the polar bear cages)

Well I don't know about you but I CANNOT WAIT for the Finale on Sunday!!  Below is a link to Matthew Fox answering some funny Lost questions on Jimmy Fallon last night.  Damon and Carlton (show's writers/producers) will be on David Letterman tonight (wed) doing the Top Ten.  Also there will be some Lost stuff on Jimmy Kimmel Thurs and Fri night and of course the special Aloha to Lost Jimmy Kimmel after the finale (well after the news after the finale)...Namaste 

Last Tuesday for LOST...EVER!

With only 2 episodes left I wanted to take some time to go back and look over a recap of each of the episodes and knowing what I know now relay some revelations and still unanswered questions because after Sunday Lost will be no more.

Interesting commonality - In this past weeks episode "Across the Sea" we saw the young MIB see a vision of his dead mother on the island leading him to "his people" (essentially the others).  We also saw young Ben Linus see his dead mother in the woods also leading him to join the others (kinda interesting)

Speaking of the others, we see "mother" (Allison Janey) torch all of the people who came to the island that the MIB was staying with, and we know that Jacob has brought several groups of people to this island - but are the Others (that Ben led) just a group that was brought to the island that lasted a lot longer than most people?  I mean it seems that the whole argument between Jacob and his brother are that they come to the island and it always ends the same with destruction so I take that as they all usually end up dead, so were these the selected people (possibly candidates) that Jacob had Richard Alpert protect...I am assuming that the original group we know as The Others arrived after Richard and the Black Rock...I am under the impression that when the Black Rock arrived no one other than Jacob and MIB were there...

Some mysteries - I still want to know why Walt was special...what was it about him?  The actor was growing up too fast for the pace of the show and I understand him essentially being written off but at least explain why he was so special...how did he appear places he wasn't supposed to be?  I mean he wasn't dead so he couldn't have been smokey when Shannon sees him back in season 2.  So how is it he can appear these places (he has some sort of supernatural power?)  I'll even be OK with them answering this question through Aaron if they have to...I mean maybe Aaron is just like him...Claire's psychic told her he could not be raised by another yet we saw that Aaron was raised by Kate and he seems fine (or is he? we don't know he's not on the island) or is Aaron's story over mysteriously too?

We know that the MIB was Christian but what about all the other random visions people have seen on the island?  Do people just sometimes have visions?  Like Kate's horse  is it just something the island can do, conjure up things from your past?

Here's a good one, why doesn't smokey kill Mr. Eko the first time he approaches him?  He reads him almost and you can see flashes of his life in the smoke yet Mr. Eko survives his encounter with smokey only to be killed later.  Why does smokey choose to let him live?

I'm assuming that the healing properties of the island are just part of the mysterious light that it is protecting but what about the problem with pregnant women?  How did that come about?  Why does this happen if the island has healing powers as we saw in Rose being healed of her cancer - but on the other hand the island almost chooses who to heal because Ben had to be operated on why was he not just healed by the island?  Is it Jacob who controls who is healed and who isn't?

I still feel like the Darhma initiative has more to be told in the backstory of Lost...

Why was Libby originally in the crazy house with Hurley?  Are we supposed to assume she was in for the same reason she was in there in the flash sideways because she seemed a lot more disturbed the first time we saw her in there...

What bigger role does Claire's psychic (Richard Malkin) play?  He seemed to be somehow forcing her to the island and we saw him a second time in Mr. Eko's flashback as a priest trying to validate a claim of a girl coming back to life after drowning, that girl is Malkin's daughter  here Malkin tells Eko that his is a fraud and is not a psychic - is that the truth?  The producers have said they don't plan to tell weather he is truly a psychic or not so we will probably never know if he did indeed forsee Claire on the plane crash therefore forcing here to raise Aaron...

Why does the ash circle protect against the MIB and it seems to have to be special ash...who said Help me in Jacob's cabin that Locke heard?  It appeared as thought the ash circle around the cabin was intact at that time so that would mean MIB could not enter the cabin right?  Also who was the owner of the Eye Hulrey sees while looking in the Cabin?  We saw Christian shepard (who we now know has been the MIB all along assuming he was telling the truth) so it couldn't have been MIB- so who was it?

Pregnancy Issues - According to Lostpedia we know that Ethan Rom was the last know person to be born on the island without complications - in 1977...are we to maybe assume that "the incident" led to these infertility issues?

 There are so many more things to touch upon but I have run out of time to post.  Enjoy my thoughts so far.  I look forward to doing a complete LOST re-watch after the finale airs and will possibly do a blog post after each episode after having seen the entire series I hope that going back and watching the entire series again with the knowledge of how it ends could make the entire series a little more interesting and we might find hints that we missed before because we didn't know to look for them!  Here is the promo for tonight's episode featuring "This is the End" by the Doors

May is National Cheeseburger Month

What will you do to celebrate national cheeseburger month? Go out and try the new BK double (why is it Burger King is always copying McDonalds...hello the McDouble, and they alerady openly admited to copying their breakfast sandwhiches) Or will you go out and purchase a $10 white castle burger scented candle? When I first saw that they were selling slider scented candles I threw up a little in my mouth (which is something that happens as soon as you walk into a white castle anyway so it's kind of appropriate).  But seriously, why would you EVER make a burger scented candle?  There are some pretty awful smells out there to make into a candle scent but a White Castle burger has got to be one of the worst ideas ever.

In honor of cheeseburger month here is a classic McDonald's Hamburglar commercial from 1985...don't you wish everything you touched turned itno a cheeseburger?

Simpsons do it Ke$ha style - Tik Tok

I am not normally an avid watcher of The Simpsons but will watch it on occasion. Last night was one of those occasions and I am so glad I caught this awesome Simpson moment. Instead of the normal opening credits the cast made a music video to Ke$ha's Tik Tok song and it was hillarious! check in out below...the clip is the entire episode but the part you want to see is at the very beginning

It was a music kind of night on Fox because Family Guy also brought us some of their classic musical numbers and some never before seen ones (although I feel like they left out the bag of weed song)...It feels like the musical is back and I LOVE IT!

OH NO...Sassy Puppies!

It's been years since I saw a butterfinger commercial, especially one that didn't feature Bart Simpson. Charisma Carpenter, Lou Ferrigno and Erik Estrada are part of the Butterfinger Defense League, and telling you how to protect your butterfinger from theives...I mean Charisma obviously has the ass kicking training from her years on Buffy/Angel (even though in the beginning of Buffy I wouldn't trust her to beat up my dog). However she is a Former San Diego Charger cheerleader so she has that going for her in terms of training too...

There are other commecials featuring Lou and Erik as well as a remake of Baby got Back titled I Like Big Butterfingers that features all three members of the league.

Girl Scout Cookies for everyone!!

Last night's SNL gave us a great edition of weekend update, the best part of which was writer John Mulaney's rant on the unfair distribution of Girl Scout Cookies



We also got another great edition of Kristen Wiig's babbling travel expert character "just kidding" and Bill Header as "Stefon" in which he couldn't help but laugh but it was still funny. However, as for the rest of SNL...kind of a bust...SNL has been lacking the past few seasons it just doesn't strike me as funny anymore...every once in a while they get a great sketch or a great host that can hold their own (a.k.a. Justin Timberlake) but most weeks it falls flat with the exception of maybe 1 sketch per show. What do you think? Is SNL dying out? MadTV is already gone is SNL soon to follow? Abed is the Henry Hill of chicken fingers

In case you don't know who Henry Hill is, he is Ray Liota's character in the movie "Goodfellas" - not to be confused with HANK Hill of the cartoon King of the Hill. 

In this week's episode of "Community" - 'Contempory American Poultry' - the gang finds themself in the midst of a chicken finger shortage due to Starburns skimming some off the top for people so they will like him...Jeff gets the brilliant idea that they should get starburns fired and put one of their own on the inside so that they will always have chicken fingers...this works great until Abed takes over the operation.

Abed's Goodfellas voice overs were great...and I really got the vibe of Goodfella's out of the episode, it really felt like chicken fingers were cocaine to them...

Abed's use of television and movies to relate to everyday life makes me happy because I watch enough television that I feel like this could be me.

Other awesomeness in the episode, Pierce gets an entourage and Troy gets a monkey that he names "Annie's boobs"

Little J turns Rocker

So Gossip Girl fans...looks like Little J's (aka Jenny Humphry) departure from the show for a bit will be the result of her music career.  Her band "the pretty reckless" is featured in the new movie "kick-ass" with their song "make me wanna die"...Taylor Momsen is the lead singer of the band and I have to admit the song is pretty good...check it out below

DVR catch up night

DVR has got to be the greatest invention ever! (well obviously the VCR was a great invention but you can only record 1 show per VCR so unless you got yourself like 8 VCRs and Televisions to attach them to there is no comparison to the DVR).  Of course you can always turn the internet to catch up on your missed episodes (assuming the show is readily available, i'm not up for paying on itunes to watch something when I already pay for cable!)...and speaking of DVRs, ATT has the best one because not only is it a DVR it allows you to record up to 4 standard definition shows at the same time!  For me this is the best thing yet because as the title of my blog suggests television is my life and by that I mean I watch more than the average bear's worth of television, I mean Tuesday night alone is a monster let's see we have Lost, Glee (which was on Wednesdays), American Idol, Parenthood, V, and 90210 - and that's just Tuesday - let's just say Sun-Thurs all look like that on my DVR (Friday and Saturday are the only relatively free days and that's not saying much because you got SNL on Saturday and sometimes Friday gets a show on that I will watch)

So now that we all agree that the DVR is a great invention let's talk about my catch up on shows night because let's face it I can't watch all the shows I want to the night they are on or I'd never get any sleep to be alive at work (where I work with television - even if it is news not entertainment, sometimes the news can be very entertaining, but i digress...)

Tonight I watched Idol gives back (that I watched live) - I only watched it to see Carrie Underwood perform and to see who got kicked off this week and then got the bonus of seeing my favorite idol - David Cook show up! but my bottom 3 was only off by 1 person and I almost put Casey down so I was that close to getting it perfect however I wouldn't have guessed Tim would leave I thought it was high time Aaron left BUT I also though Tim should have been like the 2nd person kicked off the show so I guess it doesn't matter.  I am interested to see next week's theme of Shania Twain - I didn't know she had enough hit songs to earn her own night...we shall see how this goes.  I was just thinking there needed to be a country night and I guess this week is as close as I'll get.

How I Met Your Mother: this show is obviously no where near the level it once was but this week's episode did give us the game "Drunk or Kid" which is obviously a great game you name a scenario and the other people have to guess if it happened when you were drunk or a kid! great concept right?

Romantically Challenged: I wanted to give Alyssa Milano's new show a try...it was not great but I will give it 1 more week to change my mind.  She doesn't look old enough to have a teenage son and her sister doesn't seem to fit into the show.  As for her two guy friends - one of them struck me -as Sue Sylvester would put it "a sneaky gay" - he was dating a girl but seemed like he was gay, I mean he met her at a cooking class...the other guy was oddly juvenile and the place where they hung out and drank wine seemed like a coffee shop at first but then I saw the wine and thought restaurant but who hangs out at a restaurant like every day?  It could have been a bar but the tables didn't make it look like a bar at all...Anyway, I'll give it one more week before I dump it

Now on to shows that need to back next season but are in limbo -

Accidentally on Purpose: This show is one of my favorite new shows this year and no one gives it credit.  Jenna Elphman is great as the older woman who got pregnant on a one night stand by a guy 10+ years younger than her...Zach (the baby daddy) and his best friend Davis, and then there is Billy (Elphman's character) and her sister Abby and Scottish work friend Olivia make a great core group of characters.

Tonight was the season finale in which we see Billy and Zach finally become parents, but not before hilarious things happen.  In this continued episode from last week, Zach got pulled over for speeding and then lied to the cop and said Billy was in labor so the cop took them to the hospital where they had to sneak out cause she wasn't actually having the baby but then on the way to where they were actually going, get pulled over again by the SAME cop so Billy hides in the back only to go into actual labor.  So Zach gets arrested and Davis has to take Billy to the hospital (Davis is kinda a stoner if you don't watch the show)  Billie makes him stay with her she tells him to pretend he's at a strip club and he replies "Ok but it'll be kinda hard to stick dollar bills down there when a baby is coming out!" too funny.  Billie calls Abby to get Zach out of jail but Abby ends up in Jail too so then she has to send Olivia who gets them out of jail because she knew the cop (apparently she disappeared on him a while back because his response to seeing her was "your alive")

now that that recap is over we need to find a way to save this show! come on CBS give it another shot!

Finally another show that needs to get renewed that is on the bubble - Trauma on NBC.

This show gets better and better every week.  The character development is so great it makes me not miss ER so much and this weeks episode especially because it really only focused on the main cast instead of the medical emergencies that usually happen which are predictable.  As soon as we see someone on camera who is not a main cast member we know that there is going to be an accident and one of the crews will get called out to try and save them (it's about paramedics if you were unaware).  I love that the show is set in San Francisco - the last good show out of SF was Eli Stone and that got canned too soon (ABC pisses me off) and before that it was Charmed (which ties back to Alyssa Milano).  Ok so anyways each week we are getting more and more about these characters and their personal lives outside of being a medic which totally reminds me of ER only that show was about doctors.  Even when the episodes are about the specific emergencies we learn things about them and the effects are cool because sometimes there are big explosions and stuff like the pilot where a medical helicopter crashed into a building.  And of course we get to see creative looks at how people get injured and I'm sure even if it looks like a stupid way to get hurt it probably happened to someone at some time.

OK so to sum up -
DVR = awesome
Save Trauma and Accidentally on Purpose from cancellation

If I could seriously get paid to watch like every show on TV and write about it I would take that job in a heartbeat so if anyone out there reads this and knows of someone hiring for that job shoot me a note...One day maybe I'll get a video recap that I can put together on here or something (but that might take way too much time that I don't have which leaves less time to watch TV so I'll prolly just stick to posting some pics and video clips from the net...)

time to watch more stuff on the DVR - Parenthood, V and Ghost Hunters remain, good thing Modern Family and Cougar Town were reruns tonight!
